About the Artist
Hello! I am Autumn Williams, an artist from Eastern North Carolina.
My interest in art began as a child. I grew up mainly drawing portraits and animals, then began to make a switch to painting landscapes and science fiction inspired art in high school. My childhood was spent zigzagging along the Eastern US until I began putting down roots in North Carolina. My family moved to a small town on the NC coast when I was beginning 9th grade. This is where I found my love for acrylic paint and works by artists like Van Gogh and Salvador Dali. The thing that attracted me to the work of these two artists is the element of taking something known to our reality, our natural world, and adding fantastical elements entertaining a sense of wonderment.
After high school, I attended two community colleges then earned my Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. This was a huge accomplishment for me and allows me to work with my interests in design and science. During the 5 years I spent earning my degree, as a full time engineering student and part time waitress I fell into a creative lull. I lost focus on the importance of expressing myself creatively through visual art.
After college, I moved back to the coast of NC. I got married to my high school sweetheart and settled into my job. I began painting every once in a while when the inspiration struck me resulting in a closet full of half-finished projects but also a step back onto the path of my artistic journey.
In January 2021, almost exactly one year ago as I am writing this, I decided that it was time to focus on my mental health and my artistic expression. For the past year I have spent time nearly every day doing something in the visual art realm. Even if its fifteen minutes doodling, this allows me to focus, relax my mind (in some cases), and feel like myself. I am inspired by the beauty of our natural world, our universe, and the possibilities of what is yet to be discovered.
Thank you for supporting my passion and creativity! You are truly and greatly appreciated.
